Girl Vs Cancer

photography

Commissioned as photographer for the Girl vs Cancer “Superhero” campaign, the brief was to create a bold visual celebration of the women behind the movement, each one a survivor and fighter in her own right. The aim was to highlight their individual “superpowers” and reframe public perception of cancer through strength, defiance, and identity rather than illness and weakness

Working with founder Lauren Mahon and the team at It’s The Flash Pack, I helped shape the photographic direction from an early stage, exploring what kind of superheroes could represent these women authentically.

The concept drew inspiration from their personalities, translating traits like resilience, humour, and courage into visual language through styling, body language, and expression.

Dramatic, sculptural lighting moved from shadow into bursts of vivid colour, symbolising empowerment and transformation, while carefully chosen camera angles and power poses amplified each woman’s presence.

The resulting images captured a striking blend of vulnerability and strength, celebrating individuality within a collective narrative of hope and defiance.

The campaign was met with an enthusiastic response, reinforcing Girl vs Cancer’s mission to change how we see and talk about cancer, shifting the focus from survival to self-expression and power.
